Abertillery was officially twinned with Royat, a Town in the Auvergne region of France on the 1st March, 2010.The Twinning Partnership Document was signed at a ceremony held in The Metropole Cultural and Conference Centre by Councillor Allan Thomas, Chairman of Abertillery & Llanhilleth Community Council 2009-10, and Marcel Aledol, Mayor of Royat, who was accompanied at the ceremony by a delegation of eight.
During the ceremony those in attendance were entertained with a performance by Queen Street Primary School Choir. Councillor Allan Thomas was presented with a beautifully coloured plaque made of volcanic rock from the Auvergne region of France.
In the evening the delegation attended our Saint David's Day Concert in Saint Michael's Church. The service, conducted by Father Patrick Coleman, consisted of performances by Abertillery Ladies Orpheus Choir, Abertillery Orpheus Male Choir, Abertillery Town Band and the Joint School Choirs.
The Royat delegation were then presented with a Decanter Set consisting of crystal glass on a polished wooden base.
